How to Install the Tekonsha Wiring Harness # 119250KIT on a 2012 Volkswagen Golf TDI

Is this the rit wiring kit for the 2012 golf TDI. I have been asked whether this car needs a two three or four wire kit? Not sure how I figure this out?

I spoke with my contact at Tekonsha and verified that the Tekonsha ZCI Wiring Harness, # 119250KIT, is the correct wiring harness for your 2012 Volkswagen Golf TDI. Your vehicle uses a 3-wire multiplex wiring system, meaning it sends multiple signals along the same wire.

To install this wiring harness in your vehicle, you will use the included circuit tester to test the wires at the back of the tail light assembly. Using the circuit tester, test for the wire that carries the tail light signal and the brake light signal. This wire will connect to the red wire from the wiring harness. Next, at the drivers side tail light, test for the wire that carries the left turn signal and connect that to the yellow wire from the wiring harness. After that, find the wire that carries the right turn signal at the back of the passenger side tail light assembly and connect the green wire from the wiring harness.

Once you have the light functions connected, the white wire and the brown wire from the wiring harness should be grounded together to a clean, bare metal surface using the included ring terminal. The final connection that you will have to make is the black power wire from the wiring harness. This wire will run to the positive terminal of your vehicle battery via the 15 amp inline fuse.
