does hitch pin size really matter?

Hitch pin size doesn't matter that much I would say. As long as the pin fits through the hitch pin hole and the accessories hitch pin hole you'd be fine. That said, if you were looking at the Curt hitch part # C12264 the # F-4 is an easy solution for a hitch pin and clip.
