Can 7-Way be Installed on 2014 Subaru Outback
Question:
I have called everywhere in town and they say that they will not run a 7 pin wired for electric brakes on my 2014 Subaru Outback. Even the dealership said they can’t do it. Why? The man at a local hitch installation place said there were too many computers in the car? That it was too sensitive and it might fry a computer board? I am so lost I just need to tow my camper. Help?

You can absolutely install a 7-way on your 2014 Subaru Outback and I have no idea why an installer would say otherwise. The hitch installer you mentioned may install trailer hitches but has never installed a 7-way because he or she would know that computers have nothing to do with it. To install a 7-way on your 2014 Subaru Outback you will need a couple of parts:
- T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118467
- Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV # ETBC7
This will allow you to install a brake controller, and if a shop cannot do it - for reasons unknown - this is something that a lot of people do themselves. I have added a link to an install of the 4-way for you on an Outback as well as a link to an install of the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195.
The install video covers the 7-way and brake controller and should be helpful, and I've also added links to help articles on brake controller installs if you prefer the text version.
