Troubleshooting Trailer Running Lights on 2006 Ram 2500

Question:

My 7 pin trailer connection on my 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 has no power at the tail/running lights pin. Brakes, brake lights and turn lights all work but no running. Lights on the truck and trailer both work like they should just no power at the pin. Is there a fuse for this? Can’t find anything in the manual.

Expert Reply:

On your 2006 Ram 2500, check fuses 19 and 26. If those fuses are good then you will need to use a circuit tester like Hook Probe Circuit Tester # PTW2993 to test the 11 o'clock pin and then disconnect the harness from the back and test the connection right behind the connector. If it works there, then you just need to replace the trailer connector with the Hopkins Endurance Quick-Install 7-Way Trailer Connector # HM42190 . If it doesn't work there, then you will need to trace the wire to determine where the short is and replace that wire with # 16-1-1.
