Best Way To Haul Kayaks On My 2013 Ram 1500 With A BAKFlip Mx4 Tonneau Cover

Question:

I have a 2013 Ram 1500 with a BAKFlip Mx4. Is there a compatible ladder rack with kayak carrying accessories?

There is a ladder rack that is compatible with most hard folding tonneau covers like your BAKFlip Mx4 # BAK48207, the Lomax Hard Tonneau Cover # AB1040019 and soft tonneau covers like the Access Lorado # 834532001675, but the Thule TracRac SR Sliding Truck Bed Ladder Rack # TH43003XT-000 isn't going to be the best fit.

The TracRac SR does use the stake pockets to install the rails, but my concern is how large the rails are. They will overhang the bed rails just enough to make it difficult to fold your tonneau up and also the side posts of the ladder rack angle in over the cab which will also cause the BAKFlip panels to hit when folding up.

So, we're looking for a ladder rack that has vertical side posts, use the stake pockets but does not hang over the bed rails. The Adarac Pro Series Custom Truck Bed Ladder Rack # A4000965 has all the features we're looking for. It can hold 500lbs (250lbs per bar) and is made of aluminum so it will be a great choice for watersport carriers. The rails are 66 inches long, have a width of 1-1/2 inches and a height of 1-1/2 inches so it will work with two of our eTrailer J-Style Cargo Carriers # e98878. I like our Kayak Carrier because of its aluminum construction, simple yet functional design and of course the fact that it comes with all the straps you need. Our carrier will fit this ladder rack and so will the Lockrack Watersport Carrier # LR54FR. The nice thing about the Lockrack is that you do not have to use straps if you don't want to. I love that. Super simple to use and can carry one kayak or two SUPs each.

I've included some videos for you so you can get a closer look and see them in action!
