What Is Needed To Pull A Trailer With Brakes Behind a 2017 Kia Sedona With a 4 Pole Flat
Question:
I have a 2017 Kia Sedona that has a hitch and 4 way flat connector that was installed by U-Haul. We are renting a camper that has a 7 way and electric brakes. What do you recommend that I use to connect these two?

To connect the 4 pole flat connector on the vehicle to a 7 pole connector on a trailer so you can control the brakes you need a brake controller and a 7 pole plug on the vehicle. To make the instillation easier on you I recommend 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 12 Gauge Wires Item # ETBC7L. This kit allows you use a wireless brake controller so you don't have to run wires to mount a brake controller inside the vehicle. You connect your current 4 pole flat connector to it and gives you the 7 and 4 pole plug. The only thing that needs to be done to use the brake controller is run the power wire up to the battery and attach the ground wire.
To get all this to work together you need a brake controller which I recommend the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 2 Axles - Proportional Item # C51180. This brake controller is designed so you can control the brakes on the trailer with your smart phone. It plugs directly into the 7 pole plug on the back of the vehicle and the 7 pole plug on the trailer will plug into it. Follow the instructions to download the app on you phone and you have your brake controller.
