What do you Recommend for a Hitch, Brake Controller and Wiring on my 2017 BMW X3
Question:
Hi, I am installing a Curt 13316 trailer hitch in my 2017 BMW X3 s28i. I have electric brakes on the travel trailer that I plan to haul with the BMW. I’d like to order a proportional brake controller for this purpose. My questions are: 1. If I get a 7 way wiring kit, do I still need a 4way wiring kit as well? 2. Do I need anything else besides a 7 way wiring kit in order to connect the trailer brakes to the controller and vehicle? Please let me know based on your experience and expertise.

We can get it all sorted out. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13316 is a fine choice in hitch. The rest will consist of a 4-way, brake controller install kit and a brake controller.
You will want a 4-way harness like the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 119250KIT this will get the 4-way we need to act as the light circuits on the 7-way plug we get with the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # ETBC7 this will leave you with both a 4 and 7 way plug and the wiring you need to connect a brake controller to. The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 is one of my favorites for an on dash mount and the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller part # RED44FR is my go to for a more hidden in dash look.
I've included some videos on them for you to check out.
