Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier Recommendation for a 2012 Hyundai Sonata With 1-1/4 Inch Receiver

Question:

How much this this cargo carrier weight? Can I use it on a 2012 Hyundai Sonata? I have a 1.25 inch receiver and I can only have 200 pounds. Can I use this carrier if I only put on 200 pounds and do I have substract the pounds off of 200 because of the wieght of this carrier? Thanks

The Reese Railed Cargo Carrier, # 63155, weighs approximately 44 lbs. Since your trailer hitch only has a 200 lb tongue weight capacity, you most likely have a class I trailer hitch. This Reese cargo carrier is compatible with Class I trailer hitches, so you are on the right track.

You could definitely go with either the Reese Cargo Carrier, # 63155, or the Curt Cargo Carrier, # C18110. Both of these cargo carriers are designed to work with Class I trailer hitches. The weight of the cargo carrier must also be factored into the total tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch. The Reese carrier weighs approximately 44 lbs and the Curt carrier weighs 30 lbs.

The Reese cargo carrier has side rails and the Curt cargo carrier has a shank with a 3 inch rise for greater ground clearance. I have attached videos of both cargo carriers for you to check out and compare.

You may also be interested in the etrailer Hitch Receiver Lock, # e98880, to ensure the cargo carrier will remain on your vehicle while you are away.
