Parts Needed to Add a Trailer Brake Controller to a 2000 Dodge Dakota
Question:
I have a 2000 dakota that has the 7 pin trailer connector and it seems all of the wiring is factory but there is no light blue connector under the dash for the controller wiring to plug into. also there are no pins in the plug where the trailer relay should go. what am I supposed to do to put electric brakes on my truck?

It sounds like your 2000 Dodge Dakota did not come with a factory towing package. In order to install a brake controller it will need to be hardwired.
Since you have a 7-Way connector, look to see if there are 7-wires that all lead to somewhere or if there are only 3 or 4. The truck may have had a 4-Way installed at some point and someone added the 7-Way later to match a trailer they were towing.
If this is the case then you will need a brake controller installation kit # 5506 for 6 to 8 brakes. Then you can follow along with the FAQ article I have included for the steps relevant to your installation.
