How to Replace an Integrated Brake Controller on a 2009 Ford F-450 P/U with a Tekonsha P3
Question:
I read the answers to the other two questions about this with the new Fords. Is that all that has to be done, unhook factory controller and plug in the 3034-P adapter then plug in the P3 controller? No other wires ran? I know that the factory controller has to be shut off somehow. Do I need to take it into a Ford dealer and have them reprogram the computer? I have called all the local Ford dealers and they have no idea what I am talking about or trying to do. They are telling me they think they can shut off the IBC but all new wires have to be ran to the plugs at the back of the truck. Thanks.

The way that you have described the installation of an aftermarket controller is correct. On a 2009 Ford F-450 Super Duty you will need to unplug the factory controller and insert harness # 3034-P and the new brake controller in its place. This will set off a fault code on the dash.
You can just leave this alert if it does not bother you but to remove it you will have to take the truck to a Ford dealer. I have included a link to an FAQ article that explains what the Ford dealer will need to do. No new wires have to be ran. I have also linked instructions for harness # 3034-P.
