Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2005 Jeep TJ
Question:
Towing an 05 Jeep Wrangler TJ. I have a 2015 Minnie Winnie 22R E350 5.4L with a dash mounted brake controller. The hitch says it has a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds. I have an 05 Jeep Wrangler I want to tow. The Jeep has a front mounted 2 inch receiver I use to mount a home plow. The hitch has a 3,500 pound trailer load and a 9,000 straight line pull What do I need to tow this? Can I leverage the front mounted hitch on the Jeep? What do I do for stop and turn lights on the Jeep? What do I use for braking on the Jeep? It has power brakes but without the engine running - they are no fun.

Flat towing your 2005 Jeep TJ will require a base plate kit, tow bar, wiring, and braking system, but you will need to remove your front-mounted hitch because it will interfere with the base plates. If this is something you are willing to do, here are all the parts you need in order to flat tow your 2005 Jeep TJ, assuming you also have the standard factory bumper:
- Base Plate Kit: Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1120
- Tow Bar: Blue Ox Alpha 2 Tow Bar # BX7380
- Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267
- Supplemental Braking System: Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251
- Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400
