Trailer Hitch Mount Cargo Carrier that Sits Higher than the Exhaust on a 2005 Toyota 4Runner
Question:
I am try to find a large folding hitch rack that will work well with a 2005 Toyota 4Runners straight exhaust output. I have an old fixed, straight shank 23x60 rack that I use but have melted an action packer. Hoping that the extra height of a folder with a little extra distance will be the remedy or perhaps even the bent shank styles are good enough? I bought my original rack from you and am hoping your expertise will help me into a new one! Thanks for your great work.

On the etrailer folding carrier, # e98874, you are going to get a 2 inches rise above the top of the receiver opening. If you measure the distance needed to be out of the direct exhaust path and it is more than a few inches, this carrier will be the best option. The etrailer carrier, # e98874, sits 19-1/2 inches from the hitch pin hole when in use. Would this help?
An alternative to get more height and use the carrier you have is to use the Curt Dual Receiver # D-192. This will move the carrier out 8 inches further and provide a rise of over 3-1/4 inches from the top of the receiver opening. Make sure to stay within the 350 pound tongue weight capacity.
