Brake Controller Installation on 2018 Toyota Highlander
Question:
We recently purchased a trailer hitch from etrailer and a 4 pin wiring harness - 118449 T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, which has been installed. If we want to tow a camper with brakes using a 7 pin round connector, what additional accessory do we need? Thanks.

You'll need to choose a brake controller and the # ETBC7 brake controller installation kit. The install kit includes an adapter to convert the 4 pole you recently installed to a 7-way.
I'd recommend a proportional controller like the Tekonsha Primus, part # TK90160. Your Highlander is very sensitive to power feeding back into the brake lamp circuit, so instead of the pigtail included with the Primus, you'd need to use the # 7865 which has a diode installed on the brake lamp circuit to prevent power from feeding back into the vehicle wiring.
I've linked to an article explaining how the install kit works and an install kit being used on a 2018 Highlander like yours. A different controller is shown, but the procedure would be the same for your vehicle.
