Is There a Trailer Hitch for a 2000 Toyota Tacoma That Mounts To the Bumper

Question:

I have a 2000 Toyota Tacoma that was the subject of the frame recall because they forgot to undercoat the chassis. Two shops have told me not to bolt a standard receiver hitch to the frame, but that the bumper strength looked fine bumper part 1102215p installed in 2013. Is there a way/hitch to bolt to the existing bumper to attach a standard receiver? A ball mounted on the bumper is far too high for my camper so I need to put a to ~14inch high instead of the 23-25 inch height that a bumper mounted ball would be. Without a good answer I cant tow my trailer before buying a new truck!

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 13013 is a great option for a 2000 Toyota Tacoma and what I recommend using. The trailer hitch attaches to the frame which is the only option for this vehicle, there isn't any sort of mount for the bumper aside from using a standard hitch ball in the existing hole.

In regards to the lack of undercoating, I really don't see why bolting a standard trailer hitch to the frame would be any issue at all. If a coating were applied before you'd have the same protection as you would have had for the factory.
