Best Bike Rack For Tandem Bike on 2019 Toyota Prius Prime
Question:
I’ve already installed a trailer hitch on my car, and now am looking for a bike rack to use, mostly for carrying our tandem, and sometimes also a second single bike. On my old Prius, we had a rack similar to Reese hitch rack you carry, with cradles, rather than two arms, to grip the bikes. This worked okay with the tandem, with wheels removed so the bike didn’t go beyond the width of the car’s mirrors. I’d like a better rack, such as the Thule Apex or Camber, but didn’t see either of these listed under the best racks for my vehicle, so would appreciate further assistance in choosing a hitch rack that will hold my tandem a Co-Motion Speedster, so pretty light without wheels securely.

Both the Thule Apex XT 2 Bike Rack # TH9024XT and the Thule Camber 2 Bike Rack # TH9058 will work with your trailer hitch on your 2019 Toyota Prius Prime. Both bike racks have a max weight rating of 37.5 lbs per bike. I did some research on your bike and it appears that fully loaded with accessories(pump, rack, saddle bag) it weighs 45 lbs. If you remove your wheels/tires(which is a good move for safety purposes) and any accessories you will be below the weight rating.
Both are almost identical when it comes to capacities and function. I like the look of the Apex better (which is open for debate around here). This is the bike rack I would choose for carrying your bike.
