Troubleshooting 2016 Ram Showing No Trailer Brake Connected.

Question:

I have a 2016 and a 2017 Ram 3500s. When I hook both of them to my toy hauler I get a no trailer brake connected on my dashes. I replaced the plug on the trailer and cleaned both connectors or the trucks. If I plug my toy hauler into my 2019 Ford F150 work truck the brakes work fine in it. Just not the Ram trucks. Head scratcher. Any ideas or avdise?

Unfortunately that is typical issue on a Ram 3500. There are many forums that talk about this. There is a fuse that you should check F30 that sometimes causes this issue. Next use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test the 5 o'clock pin which should have a small power draw when connected that triggers that trailer brake connection. There is one more possible issue of your brake magnet needing replaced on one or more brake assemblies and that is what I'd check if you get the trailer connection using the circuit tester on the pin but not with the trailer plug connected.

If you have a trailer with brakes and get this reading while driving, you will need to use the manual override to get your trailer brakes to engage. If that continues I recommend replacing your brake controller with an aftermarket option like # 90195.

Nate, I’m having the same issue. Did you ever resolve this?
