Brake Controller and Installation for 2015 Toyota Tundra
Question:
I am looking at a 2015 Tundra. It does not have the tow package. I was wondering if the brake controller wiring is built in to the OEM wiring harness. Thank you

All the 2015 Tundras were equipped with the 7-way trailer connector, or at least the provision of a socket under the truck that would allow a connector like # HM40975 to plug in. You may need fuses and relays to install in the fuse box under the hood to activate everything. The online owner's manual copy I looked at doesn't include a fuse diagram, so you might need to remove the cover of the fuse box and examine the legend there to determine which fuses protect the towing circuits and install them if they'r missing.
Your Tundra is prewired for a brake controller. The Tekonsha P3, part # 90195 is an excellent choice and is what I typically recommend as it has great controls, an easy to read and understand display and awesome features like 5 presets you can set up for towing different trailers or for trailers when they're empty and full, as that can make quite a difference in how they brake.
You'll also need the # 3031-P harness which allows you to plug the controller into the connector located behind the dash just to the right of the steering column as shown at the 9:00 mark in the install video I linked for you.
