Wall Adapter Compatibility with 12 Volt Clearance Light
Question:
I am creating an exhibit that need some red lights that activate on a switch. The cone shaped clearance lights I bought because they are exactly the look I needed have a single wire only. Research tells me that the mounting bracket provides a ground while the single wire can get spliced into a hot wire. If I want to run this light off of a 12v DC marine battery or a wall adapter, is it possible to wire it up? So the question is, can a single wire light be wire to a regular +/- power source battery or adapter? There will be an inline push button to activate the light.

Helpful Expert Reply:
SInce it has a single wire, it is a clearance light. You will use the mounting bracket as your ground as you stated and run 12v power to the wire. You can use a 12v marine battery connecting the negative to the bracket and the positive to the wire. If you want to install a switch like # PK34513 in line that will work well. You can use wire like the 14 Gauge Primary Wire - Yellow - per Foot # DW02412-1.
If you want a converter, you can use the # 329-GENIUS2D to connect to a standard power outlet.
