after installing the wiring harness the right brake light on my escape stopped working but the trailer lights still work. Is this a common problem that occurs? What could be the leading cause for this?

I would start by reviewing the installation procedure that I have linked you to.
Make sure that the power connection is made to the battery, and not to another 12-volt power source. Ensure that the white wire is grounded to the vehicle frame or chassis. Check where the connector plugs into the rear of the passenger side tail light assembly. Make sure that the connector that plugs into the tail light is not damaged, and is fully inserted until it clicks.
If all these items check out, then the harness is faulty and should be replaced. If you purchased the wiring harness from us, give us a call and we'll arrange for a replacement. I've linked you to our trailer wiring troubleshooting FAQ article.
