Can Trailer with Hydraulic Brake Assemblies be Converted to Electric

Question:

I’ve got a 1993 Jayco 1206 tent trailer that I would like to change to electric brakes. Could you please tell me everything I would need to convert from hydraulic to electric please. Also would it be advisable to weld 1/2 steel stock behind the pivot point on my tongue to make it non operational. I would prefer not to hack up the frame and use the the existing tongue.

Basically you'll just remove the hydraulic brake assemblies you have now and replace them with electric assemblies and then run 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 (sold by foot) to the assemblies from the trailer connector. You probably don't have a 7-way now so the easy way to upgrade your 4 or 5-way would be with the upgrade kit # HS381-9000.

I also attached a link to this page that covers adding electric brakes to a trailer for you to check out. But the short story is that you need to measure the diameter of your current brake drums and count the bolts that hold them to the spindle. With that you'd be able to know the correct size drums.
