Do I Need LED Resistors When Switching to LED Lights on My Boat Trailer
Question:
Hello, I am in the process of adding 4 conductor wiring to my 5th wheel to tow my under 1000 lb boat trailer or utility trailer for kayaks. I have a 2006 Chev Silverado 2500HD 6.6 that uses 2 10a fuses, 1 for left turn signal/stop and one 10a for the right side. A friend said I should consider changing my boat trailer tail lights to a submersible under 80 inch LED model to minimize the risk of too much amperage draw on the truck from the trailer/trailer combo. If I did swap them to LED would I need to add a converter from incandescent to LED that I have read about?

You don't always need to add a resistor like the # DI34ZR when you're swapping your trailer lights over to LED's like the # TLL9RK. The best way to determine if you do is to install the lights and then see if you get hyperflashing when those circuits are activated. This keeps you from buying and installing parts you don't need. There really isn't an exact science to what situations will call for this and it really varies from vehicle to vehicle.
