Where Does the Titan Brake Right Actuator Need to Be Grounded

Question:

I installed my T4843800 on my trailer. My tow vehicle has a Tekonsha P3. I have done some test drives with my trailer and what I have noticed is that the pump does not always turn on. The brake controller will go up to 14, but no sound and no brake feel. I can use the manual control and sometimes it works the first time, but sometimes I have to do it a couple of times. The brakes will work afterwards, but will then not seem to work again after a minute or so of driving. I have put a volt meter behind the controller, at the trucks 7 pin and even at the blue wire going into the Brakerite pump. It will show the voltage. I can bring it up to over 7 volts and no pump. If I bring it all the way to full it may turn on. Is this how it is supposed to function? It sure seems like it is getting full voltage. Any tips or suggestions?

I'll start off by saying that the pump from your Titan BrakeRite I Plug and Play Electric-Hydraulic Actuator Kit # T4813102, should engage each time the brakes are pressed, so this isn't a normal situation. With that said, this is almost certainly an issue with the ground wire because of the intermittent functioning of the pump. The ground wire on this system cannot be grounded to the trailer and will instead need to be grounded to the ground on the battery of the tow vehicle.

If this doesn't address your issue, let me know and I can continue assisting you with the troubleshooting of this issue.
