Recommended Cargo Box for Roof Rack with 42 Inch Crossbar Spread
Question:
My 2018 high roof Promaster 159inch has a 42 inch spread measured center to center of crossbars mounting points . The issue I am running into is that most inch rooftop cargo boxes max. mounting clamps spread measure to about 36 inches. Will these mounting bolts allow me to get further out to 42 inches provided i get a larger size thule cargo box etc. or are you still limited to what the powerclick clamps are measured too 36 inches ? I am not looking to have to buy a full roof rack just to get a shorter crossbar spread. I am not that far off as most measure to 36 inches . any suggestions ?? or any other options for me from other products and brands that will allow 42 inch spread ?

I have a solution for you, but you're not going to be able to use the # TH27PQ to accomplish this. You'll need to find a cargo box that can be used on roof rack systems with a 42" crossbar spread and the only option we have for that is the Yakima SkyBox 21 # Y07337 -which has a maximum allowable crossbar spread of 42" and will mount to round, square, aero, elliptical, and most factory crossbars (maximum dimensions of 3-1/2" x 1-11/16"). The Yakima SkyBox does come equipped with locks for added security and the dual side opening lid allows you to access cargo from either side of your 2018 Ram ProMaster 2500.
If you do not already have a roof rack system in place, you will also need to install one in order to use a roof mounted cargo box, so I recommend using the Rhino Rack Fixed Mounting Point System; you will need part numbers # RRVA180B-2 (crossbars), # RRRLTPFD (quantity 4- legs) and # RRVA-FK1-2 (adapters). Rhino Rack systems are extremely durable and allow you to get a high quality roof rack at a bit more economical price compared to some of the bigger names. The Vortex Aero bars will go a great job of reducing wind noise during travel and they are the correct size to fit the mounting brackets of the Yakima SkyBox 21 mentioned above.
I've linked an installation video of this rack on a similar ProMaster van for you to have a look at, as well.
