Installation of Brake Controller on a 2008 Mercury Mariner
Question:
Can I use the plug in? I have a 4 wire light hookup now but want to be able to use the brakes on my trailer. What wiring do I need and how do I install it? Thanks

I have a wiring kit that will allow you to install a brake controller on your 2008 Mercury Mariner, but it will not be the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter, part # 3035-P, you have referenced.
The Mariner will not be able to use a plug-in wiring harness. It will require you to hardwire the brake controller to your vehicle.
Since you already have a 4-Way connector on your vehicle you will just need the Brake Controller 7 and 4 Way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7. This kit provides a 7-Way and 4-Way at the rear of the vehicle along with the wiring and circuit breakers needed to install a brake controller.
I am including links to two FAQ articles on how to hardwire the brake controller to your vehicle, along with a video showing the installation of an ETBC7 kit being installed on a 2007 Mercury Mariner.
If you need a brake controller, I would recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885, because it is easy to set up and easy to use. I have included a link to the installation instructions for it as well.
