Weight Distribution and Sway Control Recommendation for Trailer that Has Dry Weight of 4,000 lb

Question:

Item # C17500 Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW I will be towing with a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder SL. The trailer hitch Weight is 330 lbs and dry weight is just under 4,000lb. The Trailer is 2019 GulfStream 19FMB andis 233 in length with width of 96. The trailer dealer has recommended the Curt TruTrak, but after researching was concerned that was not a good fit for the trailer that I will be towing. What are your recommendations? Im sure that the TruTrak is a great WD and Sway Control hitch, and was concerned that it might be more than what I need causing for a bumpy trailer ride. Thank you for your expertise. Love your website!

The Curt TruTrack part # C17500 is definitely over-rated for your setup and would give you a harsh ride quality. You did a good thing looking further into what would work best for your trailer as that TruTrack would not be the way to go.

So my recommendation for the absolute best in terms of sway control and weight distribution is the Strait Line part # RP66083 which has a tongue weight range of 400 to 800 lbs and features the only and best sway control that works to fight sway before it starts.

For a hitch ball you'd then want the # A-90 and you'd be set!
