Tools Required for Reese Steadi-Flex Assembly
Question:
I am driving out of state to pick up the new trailer and need to make sure I bring the appropriate tools to install the Reese 66558 Sway-control weight-distribution hitch. Per the installation instructions page 1: TOOLS REQUIRED: TORQUE WRENCH TAPE MEASURE 3/4” SOCKET 1-1/8” SOCKET and WRENCH What is the 1-1/8inch socket and wrench for? I cant find anything on the parts list that big. I dont want to buy it if I dont need it. They also appear to have omitted the need for a 1/2inch socket?

Expert Reply:
The Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion - 6K GTW, 600 TW # RP66558 does require a 1/2 inch socket or use the wrench for the head assembly tilt and the bracket hardware. The 1-1/8 inch socket they reference is for the hitch ball, but depending on the hitch ball there may be a different size needed. The wrench they reference is simply an adjustable wrench so you can hold the nut while turning the bolts. They put that with the large socket for the hitch ball to hold the top of the ball while tightening. The hitch ball needs to have a 1 inch diameter shank so the nut will be bigger than the 1-1/8 they referenced. I recommend hitch ball # 63845 which requires a 1-1/2 inch socket instead.
