Trailer Wiring Blows Fuse When I Hit the Brakes

Question:

I installed the C56165 wiring harness. Without the trailer hooked up, it blow a fuse in the 2010 RAV4 Sport as soon as I hit the break. I unhooked it from the battery but have to wait until tomorrow to by some fuses. My questions is, would a be ground cause this? How could I test this? What other items should I look at?

Expert Reply:

If your wiring on your harness blows the fuse each time you hit the brakes the issue is with one of the two brake signal wires being pinched and grounded out causing a short. Meaning either the green or the yellow wire in the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # C56165 that you have is pinched and grounded to metal somewhere.

To eliminate one or the other you can test after you replace the fuses using the blinkers. If you hit the driver's and it blows its the yellow wire. If it does it with the passenger's side it is the green.
