Can Different Brand Disc Brakes Be Used On a Tandem Axle Trailer

Question:

I have a boat trailer with tandem axles. Tie Down brand Disc brakes are installed on the rear axle and Id like to put disc brakes on the front axle as well. Do I need to go with another set of similar Tie Down brakes or is it ok to put another brand on the front axle as long as they are similar? Thanks

The brand of the braking assembly does not matter so you can use one brand on the front axle and then another on the rear. That said, you will need to go with the same size rotor and a similar type of brake caliper in order to get the best performance. In addition to this, you'll also need a new brake line set as well.

In order for me to provide the correct products i'll need to know the axle capacity. The Kodiak Disc Brake Kit part # K2HR35D for example is for a 3,500 lb axle and comes with a 10" diameter rotor and single piston caliper. Then for a brake line kit, the HydraStar Hydraulic Brake Line Kit part # HS496-252 is what I recommend.

I have attached a full list of options below.
