Can Friction Sway Control be Used with Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System
Question:
Looking into purchasing the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - No Shank - Trunnion Bar - 17K GTW, 1,700 lbs TW for my underslug coupler travel trailer and was wondering if you can also add this Reese PN # 83660 for extra added sway protection?

The mounting space for the dual cams on the 17K Strait-Line Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # RP66075 will actually overlap with the space for the mounting plate of the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660 so they can't be added together. If you check out the attached video for just the Dual Cams # RP26002 you can see where we removed the older-style sway control so we could install the cams.
The Strait-Line with the Dual Cams is actually one of the best weight distribution systems on the market and I'd be surprised if you needed extra sway control since it works to fight sway before it starts - granted this is rated properly for your trailer. Basically just make sure that the loaded tongue weight of your trailer plus the weight of anything sitting behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle falls in the 1,000 lbs - 1,700 lbs range of this system and you are good to go!
Make sure you have a shank that is rated for this system, like the part # RP54977, and then you have a hitch ball with a 1-1/4" shank like part # C40008 to complete your setup.
