Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2010 Dodge Ram Towing an 8,000 Pound Trailer

Question:

My temp on the transmission while towing a 8000# RV runs aroung 200-210deg, Is that too warm? I have a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 TRX4 545 RFE TRANS 5.7 engine. I have been told thats not too warm and been told way too warm need a additional cooler. What to beleave?

Expert Reply:

Typically, you want the transmission fluid to be between 160 and 200 degrees so you are a little on the warm side. Adding a transmission cooler would be a great benefit because transmission fluid cannot be over cooled and having it run cooler extends the life of the transmission.

The most popular supplemental cooler for your truck is # D13502 but I would go with the larger # D13503 that you have referenced to get more cooling efficiency. I have included some links on transmission coolers for you to view.
