Why Won't Reese Gooseneck Kit Fit GM Pickups with Factory Puck System
Question:
Why is this kit not compatible with 2016-present GM trucks with factory installed puck system? It lists all the same makes, models and years as the Curt 60692 except the GMs. Is it just a licensing issue?

I reached out to my contact at Reese and he said that with their system # RP30137 they have found with some GM gooseneck setups the ball bearings that lock the hitch ball in place will actually take the pin weight of the gooseneck trailer. Since they aren't designed to take that weight it will eventually break the mechanism inside that hitch ball and then the hitch ball (and ultimately your trailer) will no longer have a physical connection to your pickup.
Since both the Curt # C60692 and B&W # BWGNXA2061 systems are designed differently they are compatible with the GM gooseneck setups so that you can tow safely. I personally prefer the B&W gooseneck kit simply because the handle that locks it in place is on the outside so it's easy to get at, you don't have to worry about the handle getting damaged by the coupler, plus it doubles as an easy way to carry the hitch ball.
