How Many Braked Axles Are Required On a Tandem Axle Snow Mobile Trailer
Question:
I have a double axle 24 ‘ all aluminum enclosed snowmobile trailer that I’m going to be installing electric trailer brakes I was wondering if I only need brakes on 1 axle or should they be installed on both axles? Can you just put them On 1 axle or is both recommended

The number of required braked axles on a trailer will be based on its weight and in accordance with local state guidelines so this is not a question I would be able to help with unfortunately. That said, if you were to install brakes on both axles you would most likely be covered so that is what I recommend.
In order to add brakes you'll need to know the axle capacity of your axles. The Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # AKEBRK-35-SA for example are for 3,500 lb trailer axles which are the most common. Then you'd need to upgrade the wiring on the trailer and add a breakaway. The Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit part # HS381-9000, the Deka Jacketed 2 Wire, 10 Gauge, Brake Wire part # 10-2-1, and the Hopkins Engager Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit part # 20400 are great options for this.
