You can absolutely connect your trailer with a 4-way to your tow vehicle with a 7-way. All you need is an adapter:
- 7-Way RV to 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector Adapter # HM47365
What this does is plug into the 7-way on your tow vehicle, and allows you to plug in your trailer's 4-way connector. I have added a link to a video review which demonstrates exactly how it's used.
