Can a Big Tex 50LA-16 Trailer be Modified to Have a Fold Away or Removable Coupler

Question:

I recently purchased a Big Tex 50LA-16 utility trailer to assist in a move. I now find myself in a garage unable to accommodate the length of the trailer. What is the easiest way to modify the tongue of the trailer to either swing up or lease favorable make it removable. I have considered using two sizes of Fulton Coupler Fold-Away Hinge Kit or even 5-Position Coupler Channel Bracket. I believe when available to always to rely on an expert.

A fold away hinge would not work because of the design of the Big Tex A-frame trailer. Using more than one hinge would create too many stress points and is not recommended. That leaves you with the option of having a removable coupler like you have said.

I would go with the adjustable channel coupler, like # PSA256S0303, that you have referenced. For a 5 position bracket, we have # BDAC5000300.
