Does Air Need To Be Released To Uncouple Hitch Ball From Reese Goose Box

Question:

I’m another satisfied etrailer customer with the Reese goosebox. I have a question about the cable adjustment- should I be able to adjust it such that I don’t have to let air out each time I unhitch? It seems the goosebox doesn’t want to let go of the ball unless I let out air, which then means I need to add it back in when I hitch up again. The instructions don’t speak clearly to this.

I spoke with Reese about the Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter part # RP85FR and they informed me that you should not have to release any air from the bag to release the hitch ball. There are not any adjustments that can be made to the release cable but if you are having issues with the hitch ball releasing then you may want to add some hitch ball grease part # 58117 to the top of the ball and also be sure when you are uncoupling the trailer you are sitting as level as possible.
