Should a Powered Taillight Converter Be Used for 2005 Honda Element

Question:

The 119178kit does not hook up to the battery. Would this be a problem with overloading the wiring circuit when pulling trailer? Thanks

Helpful Expert Reply:

Because a powered converter like the Curt # C59236 draws its power directly from the battery, you'll get a more reliable power source than the # 119178KIT which draws the necessary power through the Element's taillight circuits. By drawing the power straight from the battery, the # C59236 powered taillight converter protects the vehicle's wiring system from any short circuits that may occur in the trailer wiring. Also, Curt feels that the taillght wiring system of the Element isn't well suited to withstand the power draw of the vehicle's tallights and those of the trailer as well, so I'd recommend playing it safe and using a powered converter like the # C59236.
