Recommended Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution for 970 lb Tongue Weight Travel Trailer
Question:
I’m looking to tow a travel trailer that has 970# dry tongue weight and weighs about 8100#. Is this 17501 the correct hitch for that? Top of the hitch on my truck is 19”. The bottom of the trailer coupler is 20”. Will the standard shank work or do I need a different shank?

When choosing a weight distribution system, you'll want to know what the trailer's ready to tow tongue weight is. This figure should also include the weight of anything stowed in the tow vehicle behind its rear axle. A tongue weight scale like # e99044 comes in handy for this.
The Curt # C17501 TruTrack works with tongue weights ranging from 1000-1500 lbs, which should be right about what you need. Given the 1 inch height difference between the coupler and receiver, the shank included with the # C17501 will work perfectly for you.
The system includes everything needed, including a 2-5/16 inch trailer ball. I've linked you to some articles that explain more about how weight distribution works, I hope you'll find them helpful.
