Question:

The distance between transom eyes is 16 inches. Would these straps tighten up enough to safely secure said boat on really bumpy roads.

I have a solution for you, however, I actually measured one of these for you and I found that at its shortest, the BoatBuckle Heavy Duty Ratchet Transom Tie-Down Straps # IMF14206 would be around 18 inches long, which is a bit too long for what you need.

The best solution for you and my recommendation is to go with the BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Transom Tie-Down Straps # IMF08893. Instead of using extra webbing with a hook, the G2 straps use a bolt to secure the ratchet body to your trailer, making them much shorter, without compromising strength and durability.

These straps come with the mounting hardware that you'll need to install them. It is recommended that you use anti-seize # LT37616 to ensure that the nuts are properly tightened down over the bolts. You can mount the ratchets with the included bolts directly to the trailer frame or crossmember. If you need to angle the ratchet strap or move it a little farther off the frame, I recommend using universal mounting kit # IMF14254.
