Why Does Trailer Wiring for Newer Vehicles like 2020 Toyota RAV4 Use Converter Box
Question:
why do trailer wiring harnesses now have converters as part of the harness?
asked by: Tom
Helpful Expert Reply:
Newer vehicles have taillight circuits that can't quite handle the additional amperage draw of trailer wiring like older vehicles had. Also a lot of newer vehicle have the turn signals and brake lights on separate circuits which require converting to the standard trailer wiring configuration of having these circuit combined. So the converter boxes allow the power for the trailer wiring to draw from the vehicle battery and also convert the separate signals to be combined like the Curt trailer wiring harness # C56434 which fits your 2020 Toyota RAV4.
