2-Bike Carrying Options for Rear of Fifth Wheel

Question:

Would like to attach hitch to my fifth wheel that has a fixed ladder on the center back of the RV. The distance between the center of the hitch pin to the outside of the ladder is approximately 9.5 inches. Is this the only 2 bike rack to fit and clear handle bars or will i need an extention. Is there another model available.

Expert Reply:

Because of the additional bouncing and jarring that occurs at the rear of an RV or fifth wheel due to the long distance between the rear axle and the bumper (remember riding in the back seat of the school bus when it went over a bump?), only certain bike racks are recommended for use on an RV.

Although the Swagman XTC2 you mentioned isn't designed for use on the rear of an RV or towed trailer, Swagman does have an option that would work great for you. Take a look at their E-Spec model, part # S94FR. The rack can handle two bikes weighing up to 70 lbs each and is very solidly built. The hitch pin hole to closest point of the rack distance is 15-1/4 inches, so this rack would easily clear your ladder.
