Display on Tekonsha P3 Remains Lit Once Vehicle is Shut Off

Question:

Shouldnt the display turn off on a Tekonsha P 3 When the ignition is turned off? Or do I have something connected incorrectly?

After 15-20 minutes of no movements the Tekonsha P3 like most brake controllers, will go into a sleep mode. While in the sleep mode, the controller will draw a minuscule amount of voltage that is nowhere near enough to run down the battery even after several weeks.

The brake controllers are specifically designed not to have an on/off switch because the fear is that if the controller is turned off the user could forget to turn it back on and unintentionally end up towing with an inoperable brake controller.

So long story short, your Tekonsha # 90195 P3 is purposely designed to have a direct, non-switched connection to the vehicle battery. You have the controller installed exactly the way it should be.
