Sidewinder Fifth Wheel King Pin with Rotating Turret for a 2009 Dodge Pickup

Question:

My Question I just bought a 2009 Dodge Crewcab Truck. I have a Reese Slide 5th wheel hitch that was in my 2004 Ford that I just traded in. I was going to install that hitch in the new dodge but people said that hitch will not work because my camper will hit the back of the cab, I am wondering by changing the king pin on a 27 foot 2000 layton skyline trailer is this the soulution to my problem

You can most likely use a Sidewinder with the hitch you currently have. You can replace the slide assembly on your Reese hitch with the standard legs, part # RP30727, which would be the safest option. Or you could retain the slider and keep it locked in the towing position, being aware that moving the slider with the Sidewinder installed can be very dangerous. You will need to know the trailer king pin type to select the proper Sidewinder Rotating Turret, because they are designed for each specific king pin.

You should use the formula at the bottom of the Sidewinder page (see link below) to be sure that your trailer will have clearance at the cab when turning with the Sidewinder installed. Since your bed is less than six feet long you can pull a fifth wheel but you need to make sure you have the right set up and clearance. We have the install kit for your 2009 Ram 1500, part # RP50142-58, to make the switch over from your Ford if you need it. I have provided links below to the items mentioned.
