Best Bike Rack for Class 1, 1-1/4 Inch Trailer Hitch and E-Bike With Fenders Weighing Over 60 lbs

Question:

Hi... I had a chat with Kuat’s NV12G bike rack. They recommended a simple solution to the fender issue. Put a piece of tire tube between the fender and the tire to prevent the fender from being flattened when the rack’s arm is tightened onto the fender. What do you think about that solution? Note: 2016 Outback with 1.25 class 1 hitch. Bike - 63 lb without battery. Evelo Aurora Limited which is a step through. Note: The rack must be able to swing down so other alternative mentioned in prior reply will not be acceptable. Thanks for a reply...

We do have one solution for you, but using the Kuat NV 2.0 2-Bike Platform Rack # NV12G with your 63 lb E-bike that has fenders is not something I recommend. The first reason is the weight capacity, with the NV 2.0 having a 60 lb per bike capacity, which your bike exceeds. And I supposed the tire tube solution will work if Kuat mentioned it, but I can't imagine that would provide the best support when securing your bike or that your fenders would not be damaged at all.

The only bike rack that is capable of meeting all of your demands is the Thule EasyFold XT 2 E-Bike Platform Rack # TH903202.

It is the only rack that will work in a Class I hitch, grasps and secures your bikes by the frame (avoiding fender contact) - including step-through frames, and has the capacity you need, with a 65 lb per bike capacity. I'm not sure what prior reply you were referencing when you said "the rack must be able to swing down" but the EasyFold XT does in fact tilt down and fold up if that's what you meant, and does so with the press of a simple foot lever.

Frankly, it is also the unquestionable best bike rack on the market in many people's eyes due to its plethora of convenience features. It comes with an aluminum ramp so you can easily load and unload your bike, has the aforementioned foot lever, integrated locks, tightens in your hitch with a knob, folds up and has handles to make it easy to carry.

I have added links to a couple video reviews I highly recommend checking out of the Thule EasyFold XT 2 E-Bike Platform Rack # TH903202.
