Keyed Power Source for Installing Battery Isolation Solenoid on 20002 Toyota Tundra
Question:
I am installing a Battery Isolation Solenoid PK5231201 in line from the battery to the trailer connector on a 2002 Toyota Tundra. This is so that the truck battery will only be charging the trailer battery when the truck ignition is on. Do you have any recommendations for an easily accessible keyed power source in the engine compartment to use for activating the solenoid?

It's definitely a good idea to install Battery Isolation Solenoid # PK5231201 to keep your battery from draining on your 2002 Toyota Tundra. I recommend using the fuse box under the hood for a power source since it will be pretty close to the solenoid and it will be easy to get a ignition powered source with a fuse tap like ATM Mini Dual Fuse Tap # 3375601000.
To find an ignition powered fuse you can test the fuses with the ignition off with LCD Digital Circuit Tester # PTW2992 and make sure there is no power, then check the same fuses to make sure they do get power with the key turned to the run position. You could also run a wire into the cab of your truck and do the same process with the interior fuse panel (on the driver's side under dash), however it will require more wire to reach and labor to get through the firewall. So using the fuse box under the hood with a fuse tap is the best solution.
I linked the parts mentioned above for you to check out.
