Is there an Aftermarket Trailer Hitch that Fits Like the OEM Hitch for a 2012 Toyota Highlander
Question:
On the toyota website, if you the 2012 highlander , and curser down to specefications etc. , and click it , the next page will have the word accessories on it , Click on accessories and look carefully at the picture of the towing receiver hitch . You will see that the lower part of the bumper is notched out for the hitch, and the wiring connector .I have inquired about this hitch with dealers, and with Toyota.com to no avail. Southeast Toyota Distributors does not carry it . Does ANY aftermarket trailer hitch company make this hitch and modified bumper piece ? The hitch being mounted in the lower bumper allows the trailer tongue to be several inches higher . Which allows a boat to ride more level, and not hold water, from rain, or from use .

I do see the hitch that you are talking about. None of the aftermarket hitches from the manufacturers that we carry will fit the same way. However, if the main concern is to tow your trailer level, then go with a Class III trailer hitch with a 2 inch receiver and then choose a ball mount with a rise on it to tow the trailer level. You use the FAQ on ball mounts I have linked to determine how to measure. I have also included a link to the ball mount main page for you.
The most popular hitch is # 13534. I have included a link to the installation instructions and a link to a video for you to view. For trailer wiring use # 118449. instructions and a video linked for the wiring as well.
