Brake Controller Recommendation and 7-way Trailer Connector Install for 2020 Subaru Outback
Question:
How would I install a 7-way trailer connector on a 2020 Subaru Outback, and which brake controller would you recommend? Thank you.

To install a 7-way trailer connector on your Outback, you will first need a functional 4-pin trailer wiring harness to access the lighting signals. If you don't have a 4 pin connector installed yet, you can do so by using the # 118467 trailer wiring harness from Tekonsha. Then, you'll need our trailer brake controller installation kit, part # ETBC7 and your brake controller of choice. I'd recommend the Brake EVN # TK63VR. The Brake EVN is reasonably priced, but offers great features like a full digital display, auto-leveling and 3 different boost settings which can route more power to the trailer brakes for when you're towing heavier trailers.
The Tekonsha Voyager # 39510 you'd looked at is a fine enough controller, but it costs about the same as the Brake EVN but doesn't offer the full display, auto-leveling or the boost settings.
I'll link you to some videos and help videos that will explain the installation process.
