Troubleshooting Trailer Brakes that Lock Up When Connected to Trailer
Question:
I did not change anything on my truck and the brakes were working fine. The brakes are also only two months old and work fine on my other truck. Yesterday when I hitched up the brakes just lock up. The brake controller checks out as well and I dont have constant power to any of the pins at the rear of the truck, only when I turn the lights on or hit the brakes. Its a chevy 1995 k2500

Sounds like you have a short between the 12 volt accessory circuit of the trailer wiring and the brake output circuit that developed over time. Typically to fix this you need to trace the wiring of the trailer from the connector back to the trailer brake assemblies and fix any exposed wire. It can also be caused by corrosion in the 7-way connector as well so you might check for that and fix as needed too.
I attached a help article on troubleshooting brake controller installs for you to check out as well.
