Adding a 7-Way Trailer Connector and Brake Controller to a 1991 Jeep Cherokee Sport
Question:
I have a 1991 Jeep Cherokee Sport, recently purchased a tent trailer with a 7 blade connector which is connected to the lights, as well as a 12 volt battery for charging purposes. The Jeep already has a 4 pin connector wired to it, but I am mildly stumped on what I need , and where I need to install the reverse light wire, but have a pretty clear idea on what to do about the Auxilliary 12v Positive and negative lines... So, adding Electric Brake control and reverse lighting for the first time is what I need help with. What Else will I need , and where would I have to attach the wires / items?

To add a 7-Way and wiring for a brake controller you will need the 4 and 7 way installation kit, # ETBC7. This kit provides you with the 7-Way and all the parts needed to wire your 1991 Jeep Cherokee. For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885.
I have included some installation instructions and a video that should help you with the installation of the ETBC7 and brake controller.
Basically, you will plug in the 4-Way you have into the back of the ETBC7. The white wire will ground to the frame, the purple wire will attach to a reverse light wire, the black wire will get routed to the battery for 12 volt power, and the blue wire will get routed to the brake controller blue wire.
The brake controller black wire is for 12 volt power and will attach to the positive battery terminal via a 20 or 30 amp circuit breaker included with ETBC7. The white wire will connect to the negative battery terminal. The red wire will attach to the cold side of the brake switch like shown in the FAQ and video.
