Towing Capacity Of 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4

Question:

I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 extended cab with a factory installed towing package. It has the larger of the available V8 engines at the time. I want to know if I can safely pull a loaded 20 ft. enclosed cargo trailer on long cross country hauls at highway speeds?

Looking at the 2004 owners manual, the Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 Extended Cab 5300 V8 maximum trailer weight is listed as 9,200lbs. The average enclosed cargo trailer can weigh between 2,000-4,000lbs empty so you should have the capacity depending on the amount of weight you intend to add.

A weight distribution system is often a great addition to a towing setup to reduce sway experienced towing, especially when approaching the top end of your available towing capacity. The Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37100ET is a popular choice with our customers because of the 4-point sway control system that helps to stabilize and level the entire setup like the included image.

Included is more about the Equalizer including video resources.
