How to Install a Prodigy P3 Brake Controller in a 2010 GMC Canyon

Question:

Is power and brake already run to the harness or do I need to hook up connectors on the fuse box like I did for a 2011 Escalade? I intend to swap the controller between cars depending upon use.. BTW I bought the controller from you in January for the Escalade and it is just great!

Yes, the OEM brake controller wiring is located under the dash on the left side of the steering column on your 2010 GMC Canyon.

Once the wires are found taped up to a larger wiring harness, you will see that they are labeled for function. We have an FAQ article that details where these wires are and all of the connections that need to be made to complete your brake controller installation, see link. If you find that the wires on your Canyon are different colors and are not labeled you will need to test them so that you connect to the correct wires on the brake controller.

You may need to make a couple of connections under the hood to provide power to the brake controller and to the 7-Way trailer connector at the rear of your vehicle. Our article details where these wires will be located and where to connect them. If not already installed you will need an M6-1.0 nut, # 185916, and an M8-1.25 nut, # 185917, to secure the wires to the power studs at the front of the power distribution box.

To easily move your P3 controller, # 90195, between the two vehicles you will need an extra mount, # TK5906, and an extra wiring pigtail, # 7894, so that you can move the brake controller between vehicles as needed.
